Dominosteentjes

Carnaval, cats and crafts

I want to show you a few more pictures.

The first ones are from Carnaval, when the kids had to be dressed up for school:

Today is the last day of the holidays, it was nice being a few days at home and crafting with the kids. We made these cards from 'filigraan', rolling up small strokes of paper. And with the help of my sister-in-law, the kids made this farm:

And finally, I want to show you some pictures of our cats, in a few weeks, when the weather is better, they will be going outdoors for the first time. The other two older cats are finally getting used to them:

Hope you had a relaxing holiday!

Holiday crafts

Well, the holidays are over and we are back at our regular routines. I must say that I don't regret it. I love Christmas, but it's always so busy that I like it when everything can turn to normal again.

In between all the festivities of Christmas, we managed to do some holiday crafts, like baking cookies and making paper garlands.

I also finished my striped afghan and it's now hanging over our sofa, I will show a picture of it next time.

Last but not least, I want to wish all of you a very happy 2009! With lots of love, laughter, friendship and creativity, but most importantly with a good health!

Marble painting

This afternoon, me and the kids had a go at marble painting. It's very easy, you take a lid of a shoebox, put some blobs of paints on it and then you roll a marble in it. Et voilà, modern art is born!

I still like to crochet. I have made another hat and am making a large scarf. I also had a go at making crocheted lollipops and candy:

To end this post, I want to show you two yummy things I made recently. The first are 'kruidnootjes', I don't know the english word for it, it's a special treat made for 'Sinterklaas', the best friend of all children who brings all the kids a nice present during the night of 6 December.

And the second one is some homemade granola. I saw this on many American blogs, but we don't really have this in Belgium. When I saw the recipe in a magazine this week, I immediately wanted to try it out.

My husband has been away this week to Amerika for his work, so it was all up to me, but we survived! Have a good day everybody!

Matchbooks and placemats

And apart from all that cooking, I have also managed to find some time to be creative with the kids and to top it of, I even found the time to sew something! For many of you, a strange thing, but for me almost a miracle! I have so many things I would like to do, so many tutorials in my favourites list... but I never seem to make the time to really make something! I have to learn to squeeze that me-time in my agenda, but it's not easy for me...

Anyway, as said, I did some crafting with the kids. We made these cute little matchbooks using MrMonkeysuit's tutorial. Well, I ended up making the books and the kids decorated them, but it was a nice activity:

And from Lotta Jansdotter's 'Simple Sewing', I made these placemats. I am not a good sewer and I did struggle with the corners, but using this tutorial from Crafty Daisies, they turned out quite allright:

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to everyone! Hope you all had a lovely day filled with lots of chocolate eggs!

My kids had fun decorating Easter cookies this morning... and no... I didn't make these myself. Even if I would have the time, I don't think I could, because I'm not a kitchen princess at all.

I know it's been a long time since I blogged anything, but I've been quite busy. I've also been very tired and overemotional, the result of an endless row of sleepless nights. I sometimes wished I wouldn't think so much, but I can't change myself, that's just who I am. Anyway, I'm not going to bother you with my emotional problems. Next week, I only have to work two days and then we're going away for a week to the Voerstreek, a beautiful area in the north-east of Belgium. A change of scenery will do us all good!

Candy trees

A few days ago, my kids turned these:

into these:

Njammiee...

Pay attention to the pot holder, I absolutely adore it! And I like the fact of having hyacinths in the house. It's not there yet, but I feel a little bit of Spring already in the air, the days are slowly lengthening, I already saw some trees with pink blossoms... aaah... Spring... my favourite season! Wish it was there already!

Crafting with the kids

Here are some simple projects I made with our kids during the holidays.

The first is a bouquet of flowers made from egg boxes. I got this idea from mama Lieveheersbeestje. Check out her blog for a great tutorial!

The following two projects are from a book I bought recently, I will post later some more about this book.

These are some bears which can dance:

And these snow globes we made today:

Hope you are having fun with your children too!

Finally some Christmas decorating

Aah, I finally got around to some Christmas decorating and even some crafting with the kids! Here is the result of our Christmas decorating:

I made this collage with this great little tool, which you can download for free: RIPT.

And as said, I sat down with the kids this afternoon to do some Christmas crafting and this is the result:

These are stacked Christmas trees made from scrapbook paper, I found the idea at The Small Object!

Have a nice Sunday!

Mousey and...

Peeeeeep said the mouse! And then she went to her cozy little bed... I made mousey and its bed from MollyChicken's tutorial.

One day last week we came home from school and my son, who is 6 years old, asked me to teach him how to sew. I took some different colors of felt and let him cut out a face. Then I showed him to sew it! This is the result:

He did a great job, didn't he??

Fun with letters

Inspired by the framed letters that the Shopping Sherpa made, I went ahead and had fun spelling letters with Flickr.

A few days ago, I bought some simple wooden frames at Ikea and they gave me the idea to frame the names of my children. I let them spell their own names till they were satisfied with the result and printed them out on photopaper. Then we painted the frames and hubby put them up in their rooms! Aren't they great!

Gardening with kids

Recently I bought a book about gardening with kids. It is full of wonderful projects and I immediately went to the garden centre to buy some stuff I needed for the two projects I wanted to try.

The first one is a desert bowl with succulents. You take a big round bowl, fill it with sand and then put some small succulents in. Then you cover the sand with some coloured sand, I chose lilac. Finally, you put in some stones and you're done! It doesn't need a lot of attention as long as it is warm and sunny and you put it inside in case of cold weather.

The second project is a little pebble pond to put on your terrace. You will need a flexible garden trug. Fill it with pebbles and then put some waterplants in (like Mentha aquatica, Lythrum salicaria, Caltha palustris,... ). Add water, put some more stones around the plants and your pond is done! It's as simple as that! Make sure that there always is enough water in the trug, especially when it's hot.

The book has a lot more interesting and fun projects. How do these sound to you? A mini lettuce garden, hanging vegetable garden, butterfly bowl, bird mobile, willow hiding place,... it's almost impossible to chose which one is going to be my next project!
